Laboratories

CAD/CAM (NCSM) The CAD/CAM Lab in Mechanical Engineering Department introduces student to the process planning and the tools that are needed to carry for process planning. Process planning is an engineering activity that determines the appropriate procedures for transforming raw materials into a final product as specified by an engineering design. Engineering designs are conventionally documented using detailed diagrams indicating important design characteristics such as dimensions, tolerances, materials, and other pertinent specifications. Even though these diagrams convey a large amount of information about a design, they are incomplete in that they do not describe the manufacturing steps necessary to produce the final part. Effective process plans provide this information. In practice, design, process planning, and manufacturing are interrelated since the capabilities and characteristics of available equipment, manufacturing processes, and personnel can have a significant impact on the final design of a product. An arrangement of 30 computers loaded with CAD software like CATIA, Auto CAD, ANSYS have been installed in CAD/CAM laboratory where the students of Mechanical Engineering can learn designing skills.
WORKSHOP LAB Mechanical Engineering Workshop is a place where students acquire knowledge on the operation of various processes involved in manufacturing and production. Engineering Workshop is the centre of learning about different engineering materials, hand tools, measuring tool, machine tools, mechanism of machines, different types of welding, manufacturing process and by manufacturing equipment used in teaching and research laboratories. We have maintained different section in Mechanical Workshop like Fitting, Machining, Production and Welding section. Student can develop the concept of measuring dimension of work piece with the help of precession equipment and gauges. Student can transform their knowledge and their innovative concept into reality in every step of the process from design analysis to the manufacturing and production process. As the technologies are advancing it is essential that the industries will be looking for mechanical engineers who can work on those innovative technologies and gives solution.
FLUID MECHANICS AND HYDRAULIC MACHINES LAB Fluid Mechanics is a branch of science which deals with the flow of the fluids in rest or motion. It is not only important for Mechanical engineering but also for Civil and Chemical Engineering where they focus on fluid kinematics, fluid statics and fluid dynamics. The Fluid Mechanics Laboratory course is a primary supplement to the theory. It covers measuring devices and techniques in experimental works and analysis of assumptions in the theory of fluid mechanics. The main objective of this FLUID MECHANICS AND HYDRAULIC MACHINES LAB is to build fundamental concepts combined with strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION AND HEAT POWER LAB Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory is well-equipped and enables students to evaluate the performance characteristics of two stroke, four stroke diesel and petrol engines. The lab also contains basic parts of an engine like Carburettor, Fuel injection system, Engine cooling system, and the cut section models. It helps the younger generation to empower the technical knowledge in the field of advanced I.C Engines, Automobiles etc.
MACHINE DYNAMICS LAB Mechanisms form the basis of any machine and it is an assemblage of rigid bodies so that they move upon each other with definite relative motion. Importance of this lab are to impart practical knowledge on design and analysis of mechanisms for the specified type of motion in a machine. With the study of rigid bodies motions and forces for the transmission systems, machine kinematics and dynamics can be well understood. Demonstration exercises are provided with wide varieties of transmission element models to understand machine kinematics. Various experiments with governors, gyroscopes, balancing machines and universal vibration facilities are available to understand machine dynamics.
REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING  LAB Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) Laboratory has almost all comprehensive experimental set ups catering to the requirements of curriculum for mechanical engineering students. It is equipped with the following set ups·         Vapour compression system

·         Vapour absorption system

·         Air conditioning test rig (Window type)

·         Air conditioning test rig (Duct type)

·         Ice plant and Heat Pump

·         Cooling tower.

MECHANICAL MEASUREMENT, METALLURGY AND RELIABILITY LAB Mechanical Measurement, Metrology & Reliability (MMMR) Laboratory covers the working principle of the various measuring instruments. Students learn to select the appropriate instrument as per the requirement of the process, and operate the same for desired function.
PRODUCTION LAB AND MATERIAL TESTING LAB Basic manufacturing process lab consists of casting, welding and metal forming processes. In this laboratory students will be able to analyze the sand mould properties like green compressive strength, dry strength, refractoriness and permeability .etc. for producing sound casting.  Quality of weldment and heat affected zone can be analysed by tensile testing and micro structural analyses. Formability of material can be determined through Ericson cupping method.
PHYSICAL METALLURGICAL LABMetallography or Microscopy consists of the microscopic study of the structural characteristic of metal or alloy. Mechanical properties of metals or alloys are greatly influenced by grain size, shape, distribution of various phases. Microstructural analysis reveals the mechanical and thermal treatment of metal or alloy. It is possible to predict expected behaviour of metal under given set of conditions.
KINEMATICS AND DYNAMICS OF MACHINES LAB Kinematics/dynamics are branches of mechanics that are concerned with the motion/force of objects. On the one hand, kinematics would define the motion of the mechanism without consideration of the mass nor the forces that may have caused the motion. Thus, a kinematic analysis would begin with a description of the geometry of the mechanism and the initial conditions of known values of the position/velocity/acceleration of parts of the mechanism, then from geometrical arguments it could be determined the position, the velocity and the acceleration of any part of it. On the other hand, dynamics would consider forces which are responsible for this motion. If we need to design a new mechanism, we have to consider all motion/forces that would act on it during the design phase. That would be the first try/attempt of our mechanism (i.e., it can be useful as a prototype) and would be also useful to predict future outcomes.

Both Dynamics and kinematics determine the machines and mechanisms stiffness and (positional) precision and hence the Quality of the design under load (deflection), respectively in Action (during Motion: vibration), or the Quality of the products produced with it.

ENGINEERING DRAWING LAB Engineering drawing is extremely important for mechanical engineers. By the way there are “drawings” for all branches of engineering, not just mechanical. The drawing is the way of communicating in a standardized way of how a component, assembly or a schematic should be. How effectively this information is transmitted to all in simple and meaning full When I say engineering drawing, it includes any method of developing it – by manual drafting, on computer using CAD tools, etc.
